Hey Guys,
What comes to mind when you think about grace? Perhaps you think of forgiveness, second chances, or unearned kindness. These are all glimpses of grace, but in Jesus, we see grace in its fullest expression—an abundant, overflowing gift that transforms lives.
This Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church, we’re diving into one of the most profound passages in the Gospel of John: John 1:14-18. As part of our series, "Believe: A Study of John," we’ll explore the incredible truth that Jesus came to embody both grace and truth, offering us a life-changing glimpse of God’s glory.
The Word Became Flesh
John 1:14 begins with a staggering declaration: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Here we see the heart of the Gospel. The eternal Word, Jesus Christ, left the glory of heaven to live among us, taking on human flesh. Why? To bring us into a relationship with the Father. In Jesus, the fullness of God’s grace is not only revealed but delivered personally.
Grace Upon Grace
One of the most beautiful phrases in this passage is found in John 1:16: “For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.”
What does it mean to receive “grace upon grace”? It’s the picture of unending, overflowing blessings. Like waves crashing onto the shore, God’s grace never stops. It meets us in our deepest need, carries us through life’s challenges, and secures our hope for eternity.
Why This Sermon Matters
In a world that often feels harsh, divided, and unforgiving, the grace of Jesus stands in stark contrast. Many people live under the weight of trying to measure up, believing they must earn God’s favor. This passage reminds us that Jesus came not to burden us with impossible demands but to fulfill the Law and offer us grace freely.
Whether you’ve been walking with Jesus for decades or are exploring faith for the first time, this message is for you.
