He Must Increase: Living The Message Beyond Sunday

Hey Guys,

This past Sunday, we walked through John 3:22–36 together and heard one of the most powerful and humbling declarations in all of Scripture:
“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)

Those words, spoken by John the Baptist, weren’t just the cry of a prophet—they are the call of every disciple of Jesus Christ. And as we saw in the message, they are not spoken from bitterness or defeat, but from joy and surrender.

John wasn’t afraid of fading into the background. He found joy in stepping aside so that the spotlight could shine on Jesus. He understood something that our hearts desperately need to grasp: life isn’t about making our name great, but making His name known.

3 Reminders to Carry Into the Week:
1. Fight the Subtle Sin of Self
Comparison, pride, jealousy—these can sneak into our hearts without us realizing. Whether in ministry, our workplace, or even in our families, we must remember that Christ is the focus. We’re not the center of the story—He is.
“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” (2 Cor. 10:17)

2. Rejoice in Your Role
John said, “The friend of the bridegroom… rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice.” (John 3:29)
God has given each of us a role to play in His redemptive story. Whether that role is big or small in the world’s eyes, it is eternally significant when it points people to Jesus.
Don’t despise your season. Don’t envy another’s calling. Rejoice in being a faithful servant of the Bridegroom.

3. Live and Share With Eternal Urgency
John 3:36 reminded us that eternity is not neutral:
“The one who believes in the Son has eternal life; but the one who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

This isn’t just theology—it’s life or death. The people around us need the gospel. And we must be ready to both live it and share it.

Now What?
  • Ask yourself daily: Is Christ increasing in my heart, habits, and home?
  • Serve this week not for recognition, but for His glory.
  • Share the good news of Jesus with someone who needs it—because eternity is real, and salvation is found in Him alone.

Let’s not leave the message at the church doors.
Let’s live it.
“Less of me, more of Him.”
That’s not just a sermon—it’s a way of life.

Serving Him,

Bro. Joey
